Children learn by imitation models, peer tutoring and collaboration. Younger children learn by watching older children. Older children who are teaching younger children repeat and consolidate their knowledge and develop social skills.

Order

Recent research in psychology has proven that order in the environment is indeed very helpful to learning and development. Montessori classrooms are very organized both physically and conceptually (sequence of materials).

Free Choice

Learning and well-being are improved when children have a sense of control over their lives.

Interest

Research has shown that children learn better when they are interested in what they are learning.

Movement

Movement and cognition are closely entwined. Research has shown that movement stimulates the brain and promotes long term memory.

Context

Learning is embedded in context of actions and objects allowing children to experience concepts. Participating in problem-solving or going out to research topics of interest provides context for new ideas
